Retaining Walls around Minmi

That control applies directly to excavating for, or building, a retaining wall on a Minmi block. It asks that measures be taken to assess the nature of any contamination or effect and to take remedial action where necessary.

The plan asks for regard to past activity; it does not say that Minmi land is unstable, or that the suburb is inside a Mine Subsidence District. Check your own address on the Spatial Viewer, and see the drainage page below for the planning certificate that states what Council knows about a lot.

A short block retaining wall along the edge of a levelled pad with a grassed bank above it, a black corrugated drain pipe at its foot, bare earth in front, two wooden pegs and bushland behind — retaining walls, Newcastle. Illustrative example.

Permits and City of Newcastle rules

A wall that is not exempt or complying development needs a development application to City of Newcastle. Exempt means no more than 600 mm high and clear of boundaries, easements, sewer and water mains, so check the lines on the main retaining walls page and confirm with Council before work starts.
